Energiekompas
Energiekompas began at the first Amsterdam Policy Hackathon in September 2025. Our team, Code & Close, explored how residents could navigate fragmented information about energy-saving measures, home improvements, subsidies, and the heat transition. We shaped the problem, built an initial prototype, and won the hackathon.
The concept used guided, personalised decision support rather than another unstructured information portal. The prototype was a rapid demonstration, not a production municipal service.
Taking the idea beyond the hackathon
After the win, the Municipality of Amsterdam invited the project into further conversation. In January 2026, I independently prepared and delivered an Energiekompas presentation at the municipality's Energie Kennisuur, presenting the concept and prototype to professionals working on the energy transition.
The project has since moved beyond the weekend prototype: the municipality is now carrying Energiekompas forward.
What I value most about the experience is the continuity. The useful work was not only producing a plausible demo under time pressure, but articulating the resident problem clearly enough that the idea could survive the event and enter a real institutional context.
