Internship at ASML

At ASML, I started as the sole developer of a Mendix application for outsourced workforce management. Across two internships, I built the initial data model and workflows, then helped three new interns work on the application and recover from a broken integration.

The internships ran from December 2023 to July 2024 and from March to August 2025.

Workforce records were spread across spreadsheets, with duplicate entries and outdated information making them difficult to maintain. The application brought those records into a shared model with validation and searchable views.

We chose Mendix after considering low-code and conventional alternatives. It had internal support, let us build business interfaces quickly, and could be maintained by teams already familiar with the platform.

I learned Mendix while building the initial application structure and relational domain model. My work included importing existing spreadsheet records, role-aware workflows, reporting, and documentation for developers and users.

Working with a larger team

During the second period, three more interns joined. As the person with the most context, I helped them get started with the domain model and project conventions, split up features, and coordinated changes that touched the same parts of the application.

Recovering lost work

Several developers initially worked too directly against the main line. A bad integration broke the application and forced us to reconstruct lost changes. I helped pause and recover the work, then moved the team toward branch-based development. We also started writing down what a feature was meant to do before merging it and coordinating changes more carefully.
